Hypothyroidism is the name for the condition where too little thyroid hormone is secreted by the thyroid gland. In order to be diagnosed with this condition, a blood test is performed where the amount of thyroid hormone in the blood is measured. If the amount of the hormone in the blood falls below the normal range, a diagnosis of hypothyroidism is made.
